Stoned Island is an excursion into DJ Dubplates mind; shifting gears between turned up phonk beats and laid back soulful tracks, peppered with a healthy dose of Memphis rap accapellas and Cali kush.
‘Bodies full of holes’ sounds as gully as its title suggests, with eerie keys that are evocative of a Rick Wakeman soundtrack layered over a hefty 808 and a vocal that feels like a statement of intent. ‘Gangsta lean’ pushes the tempo and is more of a light hearted affair; melodic synths, flutes and a lead saxophone. Finally, ‘Drifting’ closes the EP as the lights down low, smoked out and hazy number.
